This Saints-Raiders Trade Sends Derek Carr To New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints are entering the NFL offseason potentially looking for a new franchise quarterback. With plenty of quarterbacks expected to be available, there are a few names to watch. One of those names could be Las Vegas Raiders signal-caller Derek Carr, who is expected to be traded this offseason.

Carr has had a roller-coaster run with the Raiders throughout his career. He has had moments of looking like an MVP and moments where the fans wanted Las Vegas to dump him.

Even with the up-and-down years, Carr would be an upgrade for the Saints. He is also still young enough to be a legitimate long-term option for New Orleans.

Matt Johnson of SportsNaut took a look at what kind of deal it would take to acquire Carr for the Saints.

  • Las Vegas Raiders send: Derek Carr, $8.5 million cash
  • New Orleans Saints send: 112th overall pick, 2024 3rd

Looking at the trade, both sides would have to be intrigued. For the Raiders, they move on from a quarterback they truly don’t want anymore and add two picks in exchange. That would also open the door for them to aggressively pursue Tom Brady in free agency, should they choose to go that route, or draft a quarterback.

On the other hand, the Saints don’t have to give up anything crazy to get a new quarterback. Derek Carr would be a very intriguing addition and a change of scenery could help him get back to being a legitimate star.

During the 2022 NFL season, Carr ended up completing 60.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Those numbers were lower than many expected, especially with the Raiders adding Davante Adams via a trade with the Green Bay Packers ahead of the season. But, the numbers also aren’t horrible.

This trade could be a big win-win for both parties involved. Carr would find a new home and provide the Saints with a better starting quarterback option, while the Raiders move on and add picks. It makes sense and could be something to watch this offseason.
