The Spurs produced a highlight reel in their blowout defeat of the Pistons

Everyone got in on the point party at the AT&T Center

Aside from a shaky end to the first quarter, the San Antonio Spurs played focused and inspired basketball for nearly all 48 minutes of regulation. Honestly, there were so many praiseworthy sequences on Saturday night, that it was difficult to whittle down the highlights to a select few players or possessions.

The Silver and Black shot the lights out to a tune of 57% from the floor, their second-highest field goal percentage of the season. The good guys also blew out the Pistons by 27 points, getting revenge for a 34 point loss to Detroit on the road earlier this season.

Lonnie Walker IV scored 8 points in 16 minutes on a quartet of finishes around the rim that were each uniquely exciting. The young two-guard threw down a pair of transition alley-oops, punched home a put-back dunk, and soared threw the air for a beautiful layup over the outstretched arms of Black Griffin.

Bryn Forbes has exchanged hot and cold performances all year long, but the undrafted sharpshooter was dialed in from downtown. He scored 18 points, drained a trio of triples, and came up with a scrappy steal on an inbounds play.

Although Dejounte Murray was out of sync versus the Mavericks on Boxing Day, San Antonio’s starting point guard bounced back with a strong showing at home. The young floor general tallied 13 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, and added this impressive spinning and-one finish to his highlight reel.

Patty Mills didn’t have his best game to date, but he did manage to etch his name into further into NBA record books. The nine-year Spur became one of three players in league history to make 800 three-pointers off the bench with one franchise.

Rudy Gay picked up right where he left off against Dallas, matching his season-high 4 threes with another 4 long-distance bombs. He poured in 16 points, 7 rebounds, a block, and a steal in 20 minutes.

Though this is going to sound like a lie if you didn’t watch the game, LaMarcus Aldridge intentionally and voluntarily attempted 6 shots from beyond the arc. Not only did he take 6 threes, but he made 5 of them en route to a 25 point 12 rebound double-double.

Finally, let’s discuss DeMar DeRozan’s stellar shooting display. The four-time All-Star knocked down virtually everything he threw up, and his shot selection was as about as much as you can hope for from a midrange specialist. He scored 29 points, dished out 8 assists that all resulted in three-pointers, and made another man touch the earth with a perfectly timed hesitation.
