The San Antonio Spurs have waived Al-Farouq Aminu

The San Antonio Spurs are waiving veteran forward Al-Farouq Aminu, per a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.

San Antonio had until 4 PM CT to finalize their roster. And by releasing the 31-year-old, they now meet the maximum number of standard contracts allowed by the NBA ahead of the regular season.

The Spurs will still be responsible for paying Aminu the remaining $10.2M of his salary if no one claims him off waivers in the next 48 hours. But as this was the final year of his deal, they won’t take a cap hit next season.

The Silver and Black acquired Aminu, Thaddeus Young, and future draft capital in a sign-and-trade agreement that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls during the offseason.

The six-eight forward appeared in only one of San Antonio’s preseason games, recording five points, one rebound, and an assist in just under 11 minutes off the bench against the Detroit Pistons.
