The Raptor it’s socially acceptable to cheer for in San Antonio

Danny Green brought back fond memories for Spurs fans with his Game 5 performance.

Danny Green did that thing he does last night. After spending much of the postseason alternating between good shooting games and bad, he finally unleashed a great one. Icy-Hot was HOT, hitting 5 of his 7 threes (71.4%, if you’re interested). With 17 points on just 9 shot attempts, Danny was a big part of the Raptors’ 36 point thrashing of the 76ers to take a 3-2 lead in their second round series.

He hit from 2 steps behind the line, he hit in transition, he hit off offensive rebounds. When he’s feeling it like that, it doesn’t seem to matter. You can check out all five of his threes here.

The handful of Spurs’ fans watching the game were probably a little nostalgic remembering the numerous times Danny’s shooting swept an opponent away. That nostalgia being counter-balanced, obviously, by the seemingly equal number of games where he couldn’t hit a thing.

Still, it’s easy to root for him as he makes his way on a new team, getting excited as he fades to the corner or walks into an open look in transition, and surprised when one of those attempts doesn’t fall on his good nights.

Unfortunately, he never found himself in position to show off his legendary transition defense, but that was at least in part because the Raptors were so thoroughly dominant. Danny played less than 28 minutes and didn’t even see the court in the 4th quarter.

Even with his great shooting in this game, the best part of his night was this (probably) unintentional denial of Drake on live TV.
