The Cowboys Suffer A Huge Injury Blow On Offense

Schefter tweeted, “Cowboys’ left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a torn left hamstring during Wednesday’s practice that will keep him out indefinitely and could cost him multiple months of the 2022 season, sources tell @toddarcher and me.”

Archer is ESPN’s NFL Nation reporter who covers the Cowboys.

This development guarantees that Smith will be out of action for their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Given how tricky hamstring injuries can be, there is no clear timetable for his return.

However, the Cowboys are hoping to have him back sooner than later.

That possibility is more wishful thinking because he might miss the first half of the 2022 season.

Smith was selected with the ninth overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, and he has played his entire career with the Cowboys.

He has been chosen to eight Pro Bowls and four All-Pros.

The USC alumnus is also a member of the league’s 2010s All-Decade Team.

In his final year with the Trojans, he became a First-Team All Pac-10 member and Morris Trophy recipient.

Injury-Riddled Seasons For Smith

His hamstring injury continues a depressing pattern for him over the last three seasons.

In 2020, he sat out some games due to a bothering neck issue.

He was placed on injured reserve because the injury required surgery.

Last season, he missed games in Weeks 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, and 16 due to recurring injuries.

Josh Ball, Matt Waltezko, and Aviante Collins are next in line on the Cowboys’ depth chart at left tackle.
