Texas woman screamed for help as car sunk into Lake Austin, police say

Despite calls that came into 911 saying they could hear screaming, a woman in her 30s was found dead in her vehicle after it sunk into the Colorado River in Lake Austin early Monday morning, March 6. When the Austin Police Department arrived they saw the vehicle in the water but were too late to save the unidentified woman, police said at a press conference.
The 911 calls came in around 3:37 a.m. on Monday, said Officer Alexandra Park. Neighbors in Lake Austin said they could hear a woman crying for help. Officers arrived at 1502 Scenic Drive at around 3:52 a.m. to find the vehicle in the water and sent divers in around 4 a.m. and pulled the woman from the water about five minutes later.
EMS attempted to revive the woman but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Park said at the press conference that it wasn’t entirely clear how the woman’s vehicle ended up in the lake but it appears it went down a boat ramp and into the water. Kristen Butt, who lives in the area, told Fox 7 in Austin that there isn’t enough light on the roads and can make drastic, short turns difficult in the area.
There was another person who was in the vehicle with her at the time but they made it out unharmed. Police refused to provide the identity of the second person. Homicide detectives were at the scene that morning.
“However at this time they do believe that this is going to be an accidental death and there are no signs of foul play,” Park said at the press conference.
