Texas woman finds venomous cottonmouth snake in her shoe


Southlake DPS wrote in its Tuesday, May 10 post how officers helped remove the cottonmouth snake that was hanging out inside the residence in Southlake, which is in the Fort Worth area. Snakes are known to be very active during the spring as they search for food and shelter from the sun.

A Texas woman had to call animal control after finding a venomous snake in her shoe in her closet last weekend, according to a Facebook post from the Southlake Department of Public Safety. Southlake DPS wrote in its Tuesday, May 10 post how officers helped remove the cottonmouth snake that was hanging out inside the residence in Southlake, in the Fort Worth area.

Snakes are known to be very active during the spring as they search for food and shelter from the sun. 

The resident told the Dallas Morning News she first noticed the snake after her two dogs were restless. When they went to go investigate, that’s when she found the snake, the publication reported.

In the post, officers stated they recognized it as a baby cottonmouth snake. However, snake experts in the comments of the post believe it wasn’t venomous. Either way, the officers stated they handled the snake carefully.

They used snake tongs to pick it up so it wouldn’t bite any of the authorities. Southlake DPS stated it properly re-homed the snake to safety. They took it to Bob Jones Park, a heavily wooded area with woodland creatures.

The homeowner told the Dallas Morning News that she had previously found snakes in the yard of her home, which is near a lake. But she feels no qualms about sharing a space with the sly slitherers.
