Texas Next: Texas Tech commit Peyton Morgan ready to take his talents to Lubbock

TEXAS — Four-star safety Peyton Morgan was enamored with each campus he walked during his official visits, but picked Joey McGuire’s program for his future football home.

Morgan chose the Red Raiders after touring Arizona, Nebraska, SMU and TCU. The rising Pflugerville Weiss senior joins three other Wolves Division I commits: Adrian Wilson, Chad Otutu and Jacques Spradley-Demps. His plan was to verbally commit this summer so that he can focus on the season.

Each school made for a tough final decision.

“All five of them, I was definitely thinking about committing to them. It was that good,” Morgan said. “It was definitely a great opportunity. [I am] blessed to be in those opportunities. It was fantastic.”

Coaches were impressed to the versatile defensive back’s ability to cover in space and make physical plays around the line of scrimmage.

“Some coaches see me as an Ed Reed because of the ball skills, reading the quarterback and all that,” Morgan said. “Some see me as Troy Polamalu, a big hitter. Maybe it doesn’t look like I have the size, but trust me, when I get to college, I’m going to get the size.”

Peyton will follow his brother, Price Morgan, to the Division I level. Price currently plays receiver at Central Missouri, which is in the FCS. They played one year of varsity football together at Weiss during Peyton’s sophomore year.

He is working on convincing his older brother to join him in college.

“It’s a great opportunity for both of us,” Morgan said. “I’m excited to see wherever he goes, and wherever I go, just know, I’m going to definitely try to get him to come with me.”
