Texas man confesses to ‘gruesome’ decapitation of his newlywed wife

A Waller County man is in jail on a $500,000 bond after he reportedly confessed to killing and decapitating his 21-year-old wife. Officials said the body of Anggy Diaz was found in their home on Wednesday, January 11, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Law enforcement were called after family members found Diaz’s mutilated body in the home she shared with her husband Jared Dicus, 21 around 4:35 p.m.. Their home was located behind Dicus’ parent’s home on a shared property.

“The residence was covered in blood. Gruesome scene at best,” said Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry in a press conference. “Evidence shows [the murder weapon] was a kitchen knife … everything happened on the property, and all parts of pieces were recovered and submitted for evidence.”

Investigators reportedly believe Dicus killed Diaz between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Fox 26 reports that Diaz’s body was found on the floor near the bed with multiple stab wounds in her back, and investigators found “what appeared to be the head of the victim to be in the shower.”

According to KHOU, Dicus was caught on video surveillance around 11:40 a.m. the day of the murder going to Diaz’s work place, grabbing a beer before leaving without paying. The video shows him in the parking lot open his beer, take a sip, get in his car, and then drive away.

Dicus’ family, who initially called police, were detained at the home and taken to law enforcement headquarters for questioning. Dicus remained at the scene and was eventually charged with murder. He remains in the Waller County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Diaz’s friends told KHOU that the 21-year-old woman was an immigrant from Nicaragua and was working two jobs to try and pay for her mother’s cancer treatment back home.

The couple married in October 2022, according to Waller County Judge Trey Duhon who posted on Facebook about the couple whom he officiated the legal ceremony for. Guidry reported that there were previous calls to law enforcement to the homes on the property, but would not specify if they were related to Dicus or Diaz, but noted the calls were “nothing to this effect or level of violence.” Friends described Dicus as “jealous.”

Diaz’s family is planning a vigil at a park near her Oak Hollow home and have started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. More than $20,000 has been raised at the time of writing.
