Texans struggling to sell season tickets ahead of 2021 campaign?

The Houston Texans may have a fan problem.

The Texans have sold out every home game since 2002, but now they can’t seem get fans to buy season tickets. The Houston Chronicle’s Jerome Solomon wrote that he has gone from 12,734 on the season-ticket waiting list to being eligible to purchase season tickets in a matter of weeks. 

Solomon passed on the opportunity. 

“Hell would freeze over before I’d spend a nickel on Texans tickets this year,” Solomon writes. “The ineptitude starts at the top. That is why I couldn’t find a reason to justify spending on tickets.”

The Texans are in the midst of a disastrous offseason after going 4-12 in 2020. The best player in team history, J.J. Watt, was released in February at his request and signed with Arizona Cardinals. 

Meanwhile, Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly wants out of Houston. Even though the Texans don’t intend to trade him, their offseason moves (additions of QBs Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills) indicate they could be preparing for a future without him. 

Watson is also facing sexual assault and misconduct allegations. The lawsuits against him were in the works before he requested a trade from the club earlier this offseason. 

It’s unsurprising that fans don’t want to buy tickets amid the chaos. Unless the Texans miraculously turn things around, they could see several seasons of ticket-selling struggles ahead.
