Texans hiring former 49ers assistant Cory Undlin as defensive passing game coordinator

The Houston Texans continue to grab talent from the San Francisco 49ers‘ 2022 coaching staff. New head coach DeMeco Ryans, San Francisco’s former defensive coordinator, is adding former 49ers defensive pass game specialist/secondary coach Cory Undlin to serve as his defensive passing game coordinator, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

It’s worth noting that Undlin’s contract with the 49ers had expired, leaving him free to sign anywhere.

Undlin joined head coach Kyle Shanahan’s staff in 2021. He served as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator in 2020. Before that, the coach spent time in various roles with the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots. He has been coaching in the NFL since 2004.

Undlin has been a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, first as a defensive coaching assistant with the Patriots during the 2004 season and second as a defensive backs coach with the Eagles during the 2017 season.
