Texans Comment On The Latest Romeo Crennel Update
Romeo Crennel has been with the Houston Texans since 2014.
He has held various positions from defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and interim head coach.
At 73 years old, he became the oldest person in league history to serve as head coach, surpassing the legendary George Halas.
He also served as senior adviser for football performance from 2021 to 2022.
During his tenure with the squad, J.J. Watt won Defensive Player of the Year twice and the Texans won four AFC South titles.
Unfortunately, Crennel will be retiring from coaching after a career that spans over five decades.
The Texans’ official Twitter account said, “50 years of coaching in the books. Congrats on your retirement, Romeo.”
“I’ll miss everything about coaching and teaching, but the thing I’ll miss the most is being around the guys every day,” Crennel said.
“My goal was to put every player and coach in the best position to succeed and I consider every guy I coached or worked with a part of my family,” he added.
Now that he hangs up the clipboard for good, he will be able to spend more time with his wife, Rosemary.
An Accomplished Career For Crennel
He might have had forgettable experiences as head coach.
However, those setbacks do not diminish his accomplishments.
The teams he helped coach made 17 playoff appearances.
He also won five Super Bowls as an assistant coach.
Two of those were with the New York Giants wherein he became special teams coach and defensive line coach.
The other three were with fellow Giants coach and longtime New England Patriots head mentor Bill Belichick.
In 2020, Crennel also received the Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman Award from the Pro Football Writers of America for his lifetime achievement in the sport.
Aside from the Texans, Giants, and Patriots, Crennel also had stints with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Kansas City Chiefs.
