BACKGROUND
Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz is facing off against Democrat Bobby Pulido to represent a redrawn Congressional District 15.
The South Texas district, which extends from Gonzales County to the Texas-Mexico border, now includes southeastern Hidalgo County and part of the Coastal Bend.
De La Cruz, an insurance agent from Brownsville, was first elected in 2022, flipping the historically Democratic district. Her brother, Carlos, is running for Congress in U.S. House District 35 as a Republican.
Pulido, a Tejano musician and Latin Grammy winner, grew up in Edinburg and is seeking elected office for the first time.
The Texas Tribune has called it one of Texas’ most competitive U.S. House races. Pulido aims to flip a seat President Donald Trump won by 18 percentage points in 2024.
