Tampa Bay Buccaneers score again with Giovani Bernard signing

The past 13 months have gone pretty swimmingly for the Buccaneers. It started when Tampa Bay signed future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady back in March of 2020. It pretty much culminated with the Bucs pulling off an upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February’s Super Bowl.

That has been followed by the Buccaneers doing major work during NFL free agency to retain pretty much their entire core group. In fact, the Bucs are bringing back all 22 starters from their championship season.

They’ve now added an outside free agent who is prepared to take the Buccaneers’ offense to the next level. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Tampa Bay has signed veteran running back Giovani Bernard.

Recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals, Bernard, 29, adds another dimension to the Buccaneers’ offense. The former second-round pick from North Carolina is averaging north of 820 total yards throughout his eight-year career. He’s also recorded 342 receptions during that span.
