Tampa Bay Buccaneers may face consequences over Tom Brady’s MCL injury

NFL fans recently hailed Tom Brady a hero following his Super Bowl win last year. Apparently, Brady also played the entire 2020 season on a torn MCL. Quite amazing for one of football’s greatest players ever.

However, while heroic, Brady’s injury may come with punishment for Tampa Bay. According to the NFL handbook, player injuries need to be reported to the league.

“All players who have reportable injuries must be listed on the Practice Report, even if the player takes all the reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game. This is especially true of key players and those players whose injuries have been the subject of local or national media coverage.”

Obviously, the Bucs failed to report Brady’s lingering MCL tear en route to winning the Super Bowl.

Now fans and members of the organization fear a potential fine or even suspension for Brady. As of now, the NFL is yet to speak on the matter. However, an investigation can ensue at any time, especially as preseason training camps are in the process of starting.

The range of potential punishments is unknown at the time, however, anything is possible. Brady isn’t new to controversy. Back in 2015, “Deflate-Gate” dominated headlines across the country. The NFL suspended Brady for 4 games and fined the Patriots $1 million. In addition, the team lost 2 draft picks.

Going into his 22nd season, Brady definitely knows the rules. Whether it was him withholding information or the team is unclear. This could play a huge part in the potential investigation and punishment.

Brady and the team are yet to comment.

Currently, both Brady and Tampa Bay remain unscathed and without punishment. With training camps starting up again later this month, the franchise looks to dodge punishment and push for another title.
