Ladies and gentlemen… The weekend.

Yes, it’s time to wrap up another week and find out what we’re all planning to play over the weekend. But first, let’s go over what’s been going on in the world of Nintendo this week.

First up, the excellent Metroid Fusion launched on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, meaning the entire mainline Metroid series is now playable on the Switch – how about that? Not only that but Wave 4 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass also launched on the very same day, bringing with it an awesome new course in the form of Yoshi’s Island.

Elsewhere, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is getting its English name changed to Gal Guardians as a result of a trademark complaint, so that’s a whole thing. We got one more look at the Super Mario Bros. Movie with the final trailer, complete with Fire Donkey Kong and, uh… shoes. Finally, we asked the age-old question: which Link is truly the best Link?

Now it’s time to relax and play some games. Let us know what you’re planning to boot up in the poll at the bottom of the page. Have a great weekend!

I managed to grab Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope at a decent price last week and have been steadily making my way through it ever since. I must say, it’s a really good time (if not a little easy) so I am sure that I will be able to pour another hour or so into that here and there.

Putting Mario aside, I’m back on a 3DS kick at the moment as my Professor Layton playthrough continues. I’ll hopefully get a bit more of The Last Spectre crossed off the list and then maybe, maybe, it will be time to start tackling that eShop back pile that I have been staring at for so long…

I’ll no doubt be playing quite a bit of Metroid Fusion this weekend now that it’s available on the Nintendo Switch Online service. I will admit that even after just a couple of hours, I feel like I’m quite close to the end. I’ve just picked up the Space Jump ability.

Elsewhere, I’m obviously going to be checking out the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo on PS5. Oh, who am I kidding, I’ve already played through it about five times. It’s absolutely wonderful; I can’t believe Capcom has actually managed to pull it off. I never thought the opening village section would challenge me again, but it’s so intense! Bravo.

This weekend I have one game and one game only to play: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This play-through is a bit different, though, since I’m having a no fast traveling rule. I was afraid that this would just become annoying later on, but I’m a good 30-40 hours in, and It’s honestly just made the game even better (I didn’t know that was even possible).

I’m just experiencing so much new stuff that I hadn’t seen in my previous 200+ hours in the game, and there is always some form of activity when you go to a new place, whether it be Korok Seeds, Shrines, treasure chests, or a new item you can snap a picture of and add to your compendium. Truly the most fun I’ve had in a video game in many years, and while Tears of the Kingdom can’t come soon enough, I’m totally okay with just playing BOTW for the foreseeable future!

I bought Skyward Sword at launch and only put a few hours into it, but I’ve been chipping away again for the last few weeks, getting my pre-TOTK Zelda fix. I’m sailing around the Lanaryu ocean/desert at the moment, so I’d like to get the next flame over the weekend.

Elsewhere, I’m cruising the 3DS and Wii U eShops for pick-ups before the shops close at the end of the month. I got Kid Tripp for free earlier this week, but there are a few other things I’m interested in. And I should really get back to Chained Echoes at some point. Have a great weekend, everyone!

I’m still working on my Octopath Traveler II playthrough. I’ve beaten one of the eight stories, and have all seven other final chapters unlocked, but I keep running off to do sidequests and whatnot. I cannot believe how stuffed full of secrets this game is. Also, I may have started with Throné, but Partitio is the best. Don’t argue with it. Yee-haw!

Otherwise, the buzz around Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo means that I had to buy it, and not even an hour in, I’m already hooked. I can’t wait to see what tricks this game is going to pull on me, and I love anything that messes with my mind and my expectations.

Strong Nintendo DLC-fueled weekend ahead with Fire Emblem Engage‘s latest Divine Prologues along with the eight brand new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass tracks (plus Birdo!). Looking quite forward to the first couple of chapters of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon provided by the unexpected eShop demo drop.

Game of the Week is Metroid Fusion, a remarkable re-use of the Wario Land Advance engine to produce a narrative/horror-driven worthy sequel to Super Metroid. Despite having replayed the game two Summers ago, the chance to replay it once again on Switch is just too good to pass on.

We hope you enjoyed reading! Let us know what game you’ll be maining in the poll above and leave a comment with your gaming plans for the weekend!
