Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 4th)

Well folks, we made it through January and the upcoming months are looking bright (in gaming, at least). It’s now fewer than 100 days until the release of Tears of the Kingdom so the countdown is well and truly on.

This week at Nintendo Life, we had a chance to get hands on with Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, and we also looked ahead to The Super Mario Bros. Movie after the recent trailer had us wondering which other suits we’d like to see pop up. It was also, unbelievably, the 15th anniversary of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and a group of us got together to discuss the oft-overlooked game mode ‘The Subspace Emissary’.

In the world of reviews, we gave our thoughts on the stylish shooter Fashion Police Squad and got into all kinds of sequel talk with the Switch port of Life is Strange 2.

Now, as is our habit, we are hoping for a weekend on the ol’ games. Below, a selection of us have shared what titles we are going to be playing in our downtime and we would love for you all to get involved as well! Have a read through our plans and then take to the comments to give us yours!

Well, it’s another week and I still haven’t finished Fire Emblem Engage. This game really is fantastic and I am continuing to pour many hours into it as the missions get longer and longer. I would really like to have this one wrapped up before Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp comes out although that could be any day at this stage, right?

Aside from that, I will be cracking on with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on my GBA SP. I stand by what I always say: this is the best console for public transport. My hands are cramping up a little on long journeys, sure, but the game library is just top-notch stuff.

I just downloaded Moonlighter on Switch because it was a ludicrous £3 on sale, even though I already own it on Steam. I never got to give it much of a chance before, so maybe now I can!

Also, continuing with my co-op Stardew farm. We’re about halfway into Fall in the first year, and we just got chickens. It’s really invigorating to play a game you know back-to-front with someone who knows nothing about it, and getting to experience it through them.

Do you want the truth? Do you want the actual truth? I’ve managed to work out how to get the 1992 Dune PC game (my original CD copy) running on my Steam Deck. I am going to order so many Fremen around, send so many shipments of spice, and fly so many Ornithopters blindly into the desert it’ll make your head spin, Muad’Dib.

It’s more Persona 4 Golden for me this weekend. I’m still absolutely loving my time with it and, honestly, I kind of don’t want it to end. Thankfully, I’ve probably still got dozens of hours ahead of me, so I’m good for a while!

Elsewhere, I’m playing through Hi-Fi RUSH on the Series X, and I genuinely can’t believe just how awesome this game is. It almost feels like a GameCube game in the best way possible! I just got through a section that showcased The Prodigy’s ‘Invaders Must Die’ and I’ve honestly not felt so elated playing a video game in quite some time.

No surprises, the Theatrhythm Final Bar Line demo has me by the throat. I always say “Oh, I’ll just play one or two songs” and then an hour goes by and I’ve played through a good handful of tracks over and over, trying to get that Perfect Chain on Ultimate. I’ve already improved a lot and I’m absolutely addicted. Will I ever be able to do Supreme difficulty? Hah… probably not.

I’ve also decided to replay Hollow Knight because I just can’t stop thinking about Silksong. Not that this is making the wait any easier — Hollow Knight is phenomenal, and within minutes of picking it up again, I remembered why this is one of my favourite games ever. I’ve got the Mothwing Cloak and I’m backtracking to get stuff I missed in places like Deepnest and Crystal Peak. Hornet, we have big expectations for your adventure.

Between physical arrivals and the eShop this has surely been lively weeks. While I’m closing on the endgame of Fire Emblem Engage I am also quite hooked on Trek to Yomi. Can’t quite keep myself away from retro gaming as usual, so Cannon Dancer Osman and Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection will also get some love this weekend.

Game of the Week is Opus: Echo of Starsong. Late to the party I know, but after playing the physical edition of OPUS Collection I jumped straight into this gem. A modern masterpiece of character-driven storytelling you should not skip.

We hope you enjoyed reading! Add the game that you’ll be maining in the poll below and leave a comment with your gaming plans for the weekend ahead!
