Srixon’s most-premium golf balls, the Z-Star and Z-Star XV, are the choice of elite players like 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and golfers who demand the most performance possible and are willing to pay the premium price to get. However, a large number of players don’t want to spend $43 for a dozen balls, and Srixon understands that, so it has offered the Q-Star as an alternative. Now, with the release of the sixth generation of the Q-Star, Srixon has brought some Z-Star technologies to a ball that is sold at a more budget-friendly price.
The new Q-Star is a two-piece ball with a large FastLayer core, like the Z-Star, that is extremely soft in the center and gradually gets firmer toward the outside. According to Srixon, the advantage of this design is that it delivers more speed and an enhanced feel, something that is not typically found in a ball at this price.

An ionomer cover encases the core and is designed for better durability. It has a 338-dimple pattern on it that is designed to reduce drag and make the Q-Star more stable in the wind. The cover has also been enhanced with the addition of SpinSkin with SeRM, again, like the Z-Star and Z-Star XV. It’s a special coating that allows wedges and short irons to grab the cover more easily and to generate spin more effectively on approach shots, chips and greenside pitch shots. It does not, however, increase spin or reduce distance on long irons or tee shots.
The overall compression of the 2022 Q-Star has been decreased from 77 to 72, so this version of the Q-Star should feel softer at impact and generate more ball speed off the tee.
