After delivering a career-best 52-point performance against the Dallas Mavericks, Victor Wembanyama continued his impressive run by shining in the San Antonio Spurs’ 124-109 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday. The Spurs superstar put together another outstanding performance despite playing limited minutes, helping his team extend its winning streak to seven games and improve its record to 7-2.
Wembanyama finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks and two assists. He shot 10-of-18 from the field and knocked down four of his six attempts from beyond the arc. Even more impressively, the French big man produced those numbers in just 26 minutes of action.
The Spurs superstar also made history with another remarkable defensive achievement. According to Novig, Wembanyama has now recorded at least two blocks in each of his first nine games this season, giving him the second-longest streak to open a season in NBA history. Only David Robinson has produced a longer run, recording at least two blocks in 14 consecutive games to begin the 1992-93 season.
However, the victory also brought a moment of concern for San Antonio as Wembanyama twisted his left ankle after landing on Domantas Sabonis’ foot while attempting a three-pointer. The foul was subsequently upgraded to a Flagrant 1 against Sabonis.
Fortunately for the Spurs, the next projected Wilt Chamberlain in Dylan Harper’s eyes was able to return to the game and appeared comfortable following the incident. His presence helped San Antonio protect its advantage and maintain control as Sacramento attempted to mount a comeback.
Though the Kings made the game more competitive after halftime, they struggled to find consistent answers for San Antonio’s offensive production. The Spurs maintained their advantage through a balanced scoring effort, with several players stepping up alongside Wembanyama.
Stephon Castle was among the team’s key contributors, finishing with 19 points and seven assists. Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell also finished with 19 points. Harrison Barnes contributed 13 points, one rebound and one steal in the win.
