Spurs release limited-edition T-shirt to raise money for COVID-19 relief

Spurs fans can get their hands on a limited-edition gear and help with COVID-19 relief efforts in San Antonio at the same time.

In order to help give back to first responders, small businesses and families across the Alamo City, the first 1,000 people to donate $50 to the Spurs Give Together Fund, will receive a special T-shirt.

“It’s not about how big of a gift you give, even if it’s $5 or $10 it makes a difference,” said Jennifer Regnier, Executive Director of Spurs Give. “We had just wanted to give a nod to David Robinson with his number 50, which is why we chose that amount for the shirts.”

“There is so much need right now, it’s astronomical and we know we can’t solve all of the problems but we hope we can bring awareness to come of the gap areas and help,” she added.

The Spurs Give Together Fund, created earlier this month by the Spurs Give non-profit, is aiming to help raise over $1 million for the community.

“It is bringing people together and giving them something bigger than themselves to be a part of,” Regnier said.

With the money raised, the organization has been able to help the community in a number of ways, including giving money to help pay for childcare for the community, providing free WiFi and hotspots to 800 school kids for a year, buying meals from local businesses and raising money and awareness for the San Antonio Food Bank and Battered Women and Children’s Shelter.

Spurs point guard Patty Mills raised more than $100,000 for the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter on Mother’s Day as part of the initiative.

“As soon as the money comes in, we are giving it right back to the community,” Regnier said.

She said the organization is only $300,000 away from its $1 million goal.
