Should the Packers consider signing Odell Beckham Jr.?

After losing franchise legend Davante Adams and speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling this offseason to the AFC West, the Packers have made moves to try and find replacements and more weapons at receiver for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  

The team added rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs in April’s draft. It also brought back veterans Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. Sammy Watkins was the team’s lone free agent skill-position addition. The team might still need another player that can win one-on-one against any defender. A star receiver like free agent Odell Beckham Jr. could be a fantastic addition for the Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur.

Beckham is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was a key part of the Rams Super Bowl team last season. However, he tore his ACL in the Super Bowl, a big reason he remains a free agent. The former Giants receiver can certainly be patient while looking for a new team. This is where the Packers should consider offering him a contract. His route-running ability and proof of production are clear indicators for why he would be a fantastic addition. The former LSU star has five seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving and has averaged seven touchdowns per season in his eight-year career. Aside from his two-year stint in Cleveland, Beckham has been incredibly consistent throughout his NFL career.

With Beckham likely not being ready until mid-season, he would almost be like a trade deadline acquisition. The Packers could add him in time for the stretch run before the playoffs. It is also important to remember that the Packers were interested in Beckham last season before he chose to sign with the Rams.  

If the Packers can find a way to bring him in this season, their offense would go to a whole new level because of the Louisiana native’s ability to stretch the field and put fear in the soul’s of opposing defensive backs. Rodgers and Beckham are good friends off the field and could form an elite connection on the field. Beckham would have a very real chance at winning back-to-back Super Bowls with two different teams. It would be a win-win move for both parties.
