Should Mike McCarthy Be On The Hot Seat?

The Dallas Cowboys head into the postseason as the fifth seed in the NFC.

But, they are coming off maybe their worst performance of the entire season in Week 18.

In a game with still plenty to play for, Dallas looked flat and uninterested.

They lost to the Washington Commanders 26-6, and questions about the team’s preparation are valid.

Having 10 days to get ready for this game, it was shocking to see the Cowboys play this badly.

One question that needs to be asked is, should Mike McCarthy be on the hot seat?

This may seem unfair for a coach that has led the Cowboys to consecutive 12-win seasons.

Something that has not happened in Dallas since 1992-95.

But, McCarthy will be judged on how his team does in the playoffs.

The Cowboys have a tall task on wild-card weekend when they travel to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Dallas puts up another stinker as they did in Week 18, the noise around McCarthy will only get louder.

Back-to-back years of getting knocked out in the wild-card round would be crushing for Dallas.

McCarthy was hired by Jerry Jones because of his experience, especially in the playoffs.

But, that needs to result in wins in these playoffs.

The hottest team in the NFC right now is the 49ers, who have won 10 straight games.

But, the Cowboys can beat anyone in the league when they play their best.

The offensive game plan will be crucial for the Cowboys against Tampa Bay.

Dallas has to be creative on early downs, instead of just slamming a running back up the middle for two yards.

The Buccaneers have too many good players on their front seven for that plan to work.

An offensive coach like McCarthy should recognize that and adjust their game plan.

Overall, this is a huge postseason for the Cowboys’ head coach.

Anything short of a deep playoff run could leave McCarthy on the hot seat.
