FA Cup third-round roundup
The FA Cup third round, which contained 106 goals across 32 ties, came to a close with Manchester United playing host to Aston Villa on Monday evening.
The Red Devils, knocked out in the semi-finals last season, kept hopes alive of going all the way this time round, courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 triumph.

Upset of the round: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal
The upset of the round came as high-flying Arsenal were unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Nottingham Forest courtesy of a 1-0 scoreline at the City Ground.
A goal from veteran forward Lewis Grabban proved decisive 10 minutes from time, with the Forest man steering home a pinpoint cross that left the Arsenal defence stranded, and sent Mikel Arteta’s side out of the cup.

The result, marking the second time that Arsenal have been knocked out at this stage by Forest in four years, means that the Championship side advance to a home tie against midlands rivals Leicester City, while Arsenal will have to wait another year to add to their tally of 14 FA Cup titles.
Game of the 3rd round: Barnsley 5-4 Barrow
Nine goals and a red card shared across 120 minutes of football is always going to mark a game you don’t want to miss. And in this case, it was certainly worth the trip for those that travelled to Oakwell to watch Championship strugglers Barnsley host League Two side Barrow.
Nine goals.
Eight different goalscorers.
One red card.

The hosts eventually squeezed past Barrow in extra-time, but only after they had been given a serious scare in the process.

They will now face Huddersfield Town in the Fourth Round.

League One Cambridge United were, very briefly, the nation’s sweethearts as they knocked out newly-rich Premier League Newcastle in a massive upset.
That was only until they pulled out the celebrations, though… As can be seen below, several members of the club’s squad opted for the Cristiano Ronaldo “siuu” celebration in an empty St James’ Park:

Safe to say, much of the fandom that they had secured after defeating the Magpies quickly melted away, with more than one response to the video pleading with the CU admin to delete the clip.
Goal of the round
93 minutes on the clock, locked at two goals apiece, with extra-time looming… Step forward, Thelo Aasgaard.
Just as those watching on inside the DW Stadium had prepped themselves for an extra half-hour of action, and potentially penalties, too, Wigan Athletic’s teenage talent Aasgaard conjured up a moment of magic, to send the Latics into the FA Cup’s 4th round in style.
The fact that the Liverpool native, introduced from the bench only a short time before, found the winner just minutes after Daniel Ayala had levelled things up for Blackburn, made his sumptuous strike an even sweeter one, and good enough for our goal of the 3rd round:
4th Round tie to watch – Kidderminster Harriers v West Ham United
Non-league side Kidderminster Harriers were rewarded for their upset against Championship side Reading with a home draw against high-flying West Ham United.

The two sides last met in the 5th round of the 1994 FA Cup, where the now-Premier League top-4 chasers prevailed by a 1-0 scoreline thanks to a strike from Lee Chapman.
28 years later, and Kidderminster have a chance to get revenge in a game that will certainly have plenty of eyes on it.
What the odds say
On the back of their downing of Aston Villa this evening, Manchester United have climbed to 4th in the bookmakers’ odds to go all the way in this season’s FA Cup.
Cross-town rivals Manchester City, though, remain the outright front-runners to clinch a 2nd FA Cup crown in the space of four years, at odds of 11/4.
