Season recap: Manchester City 1 Manchester United 2

MATCH REPORT

Like our visit to Anfield each season, the short trip across town to the Etihad Stadium usually makes for nervy viewing. But this time, all watching Reds were in for a treat, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men blasted out of the traps to make the expectant home crowd squirm.

United were sensational for 30 minutes in east Manchester, slicing through City’s midfield with precision, pace and power. Deservedly, the visitors were rewarded with a two-goal lead at half-time – the first delivered from the spot by Marcus Rashford and the second swept home by Anthony Martial, after one of many excellent counterattacks. It could and probably should have been more than 2-0, though City felt aggrieved when VAR ignored two claims for handball inside the United area.
