Search for missing man at East Side home comes to ‘disappointing and infuriating’ end

The search of an East Side home’s property for the body of a missing man believed to be dead has come to a “disappointing and infuriating” conclusion, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said during a news conference Thursday.

Since Tuesday, deputies had been searching a home in the 300 block of Holmgreen Road based on a tip from a potential suspect in the case that the body of 38-year-old Curtis Perry, who has been missing since July, may have been at the residence.

Salazar said the search ended after the suspect said he gave investigators false information.

“I believe he thought he was helping his own case and didn’t think that we would actually go out to look for Mr. Perry,” Salazar said. “But instead he just hurt himself because all of his credibility is gone.”

Perry was last seen on July 29 near the 9400 block of South Foster Road. Originally from Philadelphia, Perry was in Houston visiting relatives and rented a car to meet people in San Antonio.

It is believed he was lured to Foster Road to be robbed by the suspects.

Investigators began to question the tipster’s information after they began to recognize inconsistencies in his story.

“We were told that things would be in the yard that weren’t there and, when we started digging inch by inch on the property, we noticed that the ground wasn’t disturbed at all,” Salazar said. “And there were even roots growing where we were digging, which tells me no one had been digging there.”

Salazar called the developments a setback in the case, but said the department is following additional leads.

The sheriff said they believe a group of violent juveniles with “no regard for human life” is responsible for the man’s death.

The suspect who provided the false information is a suspect in the case but is in custody on unrelated charges, Salazar said. Investigators believe several others they suspect of being involved are also in custody at other area agencies on unrelated charges.

Salazar said deputies found stolen vehicles, weapons and narcotics at the Holmgreen property.

BCSO may ask the FBI to assist with additional resources to find Perry’s body, the Sheriff said.

“The person I feel terrible for is Mr. Perry’s mother, she’s been going through a living hell and I hate that I can’t give her any answers as to where her son is,” Salazar said.
