San Antonio police said they believe distracted driving may have led to an early morning crash that left one man dead on the far West Side on Friday.

SAPD later identified the man as 30-year-old Jose M. Moreno.

Moreno died after his pick-up truck crashed into the back on a parked 18-wheeler just before 7 a.m., police said.

The 18-wheeler was parked in the right lane on the access road in the 4100 block of West Loop 1604 near the Wiseman Boulevard. Police said the driver of the 18-wheeler had its hazard lights on and was waiting on a client to unload his inventory. The pickup truck became wedged under the truck.

As firefighters attempted to perform life-saving measures, Moreno’s cell phone was still actively playing a video on YouTube, SAPD said.

Police said they also believe Moreno was also speeding.

Officers were on the scene for several hours investigating the crash. The road has been reopened.

Police said they do not expect the 18-wheeler driver to be charged.
