San Francisco 49ers: This QB Could Be An “Under-The-Radar” Trade Candidate

San Francisco 49ers: Trey Lance Trade?

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov highlighted “under-the-radar” trade candidates and named Lance as one of them. This was a bit of a surprise as the 49ers spent significant draft capital in order to trade up and take Lance 3rd overall. However, injuries and the emergence of Purdy last season have caused many to wonder whether the 49ers are looking to move on. The signing of Darnold also signals this as many believe Darnold would not sing there to be the third quarterback in the room. However, this could also have been injury insurance as both Lance and Purdy are coming off of significant injuries.

Who Will Start Week 1?

If I was a betting man, I would say that Brock Purdy will be the starter in week 1. Everything coming out of the 49ers’ camp seems to indicate that they really like the seventh-round pick for the position. He thrived in Kyle Shanahan’s offense and led the 49ers to the NFC championship game. At this point, Lance feels like a sunk cost. He simply has not had the playing time to prove anything and coming off of a broken ankle adds more questions. There is most likely some team that would take a flyer on Lance so it would not shock me if they try to unload him in the off-season.

The San Francisco 49ers are in a tricky spot with Trey Lance. Usually, when teams give up so much to get a player, they feel like they have to stick with him. However, the roster is ready to win now and the team has to put the player out there that could bring them a Super Bowl.
