The city’s annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show and festivities will follow the trend of other events in 2020 and go virtual, according to the San Antonio Parks Foundation.

Although the event won’t be enjoyed in person, the foundation says residents can have a front row seat to the Celebrate SA! show, which will begin with 2021 spelled out in the sky followed by a 12-minute fireworks show and grand finale from Hemisfair. The show is virtual this year in response to the pandemic, the foundation said.

“We applaud the dedication of our municipal employees for working to keep everyone as safe as possible,” said the Center City Development & Operations Director John Jacks in a news release. “We look forward to gathering again downtown next year when we can toast together.”

In addition to the fireworks, the event will include a performance by the Mélange Band, interviews with local leaders about the past year and segments on cocktails.

News 4 San Antonio will broadcast the show, which starts at 10 p.m. Dec. 31 with hosts Randy Beamer and Don Harris.

Last year’s fireworks show was joined by a large show of illegal fireworks that were set off around the city. Video showed the San Antonio skyline lighting up at midnight.
