San Antonio police find shooting suspect’s home empty after 12-hour standoff

After a nearly 12-hour police standoff, law enforcement entered the home of the suspect accused of shooting and killing a woman at a Southside taco truck on Thursday night, April 6, only to find the home was empty, officials with the San Antonio Police Department said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Update: Friday, April 7, 2023, at 11:15 a.m.:

The law enforcement standoff and police negotiations are continuing outside the home of a man accused of shooting and killing a woman he once had a relationship with, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in a press conference a little before 11 a.m. Friday, April 7.

Law enforcement has surrounded the man’s home and has been working to get him to safely come out over the last few hours. They have been calling out to the man over the loud speaker asking him to come out with nothing in his hands.

McManus said officers were firing ferret rounds into the home before resorting to gas canisters. Ferret rounds typically use a powdered or liquid irritant that causes pain, discomfort, and possible incapacitation, according to Defense Technology, a manufacturer of such ammunition.

Original Story:

SWAT and negotiators were called to a Southside home after an argument at a taco truck escalated into a shooting that left one woman dead, the San Antonio Police said. The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday April 6, at Southwest Military Drive and Commercial.

Police said the suspect shot into the window of a Jeep owned by the man he was engaged in the argument with, hitting a woman in the chest. The driver of the Jeep drove to a nearby gas station to call for help and police said the suspect fled the scene of the shooting in a separate vehicle.

The woman, believed to be in her mid 20s, was later pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services. Officials said it is not immediately clear how the suspect and Jeep driver know each other.

Police arrived at the home of the alleged shooting suspect and attempted to get him to leave the home located on Humboldt Street at 9:45 p.m., which resulted in an ongoing standoff with law enforcement. Police deployed a drone due to the wet weather conditions, which grounded the Eagle helicopter. SWAT was later called in and police set up a mobile command center, SAPD said. According to KSAT, officers negotiated with the supposed shooting suspect over the loudspeaker for several hours.
