San Antonio OB/GYN tests positive for COVID-19

A San Antonio OB/GYN has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the individual’s employer.

Northeast OB/GYN Associates announced Thursday that one of the physicians at their practice had received a positive test result for novel coronavirus within the past 24 hours.

The women’s health care specialists said the confirmed case was related to recent travel. The physician is isolated at home and doing well.

Northeast has traced the patients the woman had worked with and reached out to those who may have been affected.

All physicians and staff who had contact with the individual have been self-quarantining at home.

So far, four health care workers in San Antonio have tested positive for the coronavirus. All appear to have been exposed to the virus through recent travel, not from their work.

Northeast is rescheduling all non-emergency appointments, encouraging patients to stay home, and minimizing the number of people at its offices.

“We know that this is a stressful time,” Northeast said. “Please know that the entire worldwide community of healthcare providers are doing our best to navigate this crisis.”

The clinic has six locations in the San Antonio area, including one at North Central Baptist Hospital. Baptist Health System confirmed Thursday that a doctor at the hospital had tested positive for the coronavirus after travelling out of state. It’s unclear if the cases are the same individual.

There are now 29 coronavirus cases total in the city. Eight of the cases are travel-related, four are close-contact, and 11 remain under investigation.

Six confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Antonio have been determined to be transmitted via community spread, officials said Thursday.
