Mayor Ron Nirenberg took a moment to remember the late rock star Eddie Van Halen Thursday evening.

The Van Halen guitarist and legend died Tuesday of cancer. He was 65.

Like millions of international rock fans, it appears San Antonio’s mayor is mourning the star by jamming his music.

“It’s loud in my office right now. #EddieVanHalen,” Nirenberg tweeted.

The Alamo City was considered an Eden for heavy metal and head-banging from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. Though Van Halen’s style wasn’t always considered heavy metal, the local music history could be what Twitter user The Texanist was referring to when he posted “Would you expect anything less from the Mayor of San Antonio,” with a rock hand emoji.

Mayor Nirenberg replied back with his own rock hand sign.
