San Antonio @ Los Angeles Clippers, Final Score: Spurs drop a close one on the road, 110-113

The Spurs 50 win streak ended with a loss on the road, in a game they mostly dominated and should have won

San Antonio dominated early, with Aldridge scoring 13 of the Spurs’ 31 in the first quarter, while keeping the Clippers to 17. Rudy Gay came out with 8 in the second, leading to the Spurs’ 56-49 lead at the half. Aldridge didn’t score after the first quarter until about midway through the 3rd, but made up for it with 22 in the second half to give him 35 on the night.

The Clippers fought back to take their first lead of the night at 64-63 with over five minites left in the third, and then the Spurs went on a 20-8 run to end the quarter up 83-72.

The Clippers began the fourth with a 14-4 run to pull within 1, and then tied it on a Lou Williams and-1 with 6.5 minutes in the game. It was too close from then on, and after Manu Ginobili stepped out of bounds on the game tying three, the Clippers pulled out the close victory to end the Spurs’ historic streak of winning 50 games a year.

  • LA only led for 48 game seconds on the night.
  • Spurs shot 50% in the first half helping them to the 56-49 lead.
  • 10 blocks and 12 steals on the night showed the hustle by the Spurs – led by Dejounte Murray with 4 steals, and 4 blocks by Kyle Anderson– but it wasn’t enough.
  • Lou Williams had 15 in the fourth, including 2 free throws, to make it 108-111 and essentially sealed the game for LA. He had 22, which along with Tobias Harris’ 31, led to the Spurs’ demise.

San Antonio stays in LA to face the Lakers Wednesday at 9:30 pm.
