San Antonio airport hit with flight cancellations as freezing weather continues

Southwest and American airlines are sitting with the most cancellations in San Antonio with 33 and 16 respectively. FlightAware reports that 15 out of the 30 flights are Dallas destinations. 

Austin-Bergstrom 

Austin-Bergstrom airport is currently looking at 204 cancellations and 27 delays across 13 airlines. The airport tweeted Wednesday morning that its teams have applied 1,720 gallons of de-icing liquid to its airfield. Southwest and American airlines have canceled 82 and 42 flights respectively. 

Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas and Fort Worth are seeing the most cancellations with a total 1,560 flights canceled at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. DFW International is seeing the majority of those cancellations with 1,254 flights canceled as of 9:14 a.m. Dallas Love Field is facing 306 cancellations. 

Icy conditions

Freezing rain has led to ice accumulating on roads and highways in the most of Central Texas over Tuesday night, January 31, and into Wednesday morning, leading to closures. San Antonio is facing power outages affecting over 25,000 customers as of 9:15 a.m. Austin is seeing 134,687 customers without power as of the same time. 

The National Weather Services that certain parts of Texas could see the surface temperatures rise above freezing Wednesday afternoon.
