SAFD saves Southwest Side restaurant after blaze breaks out overnight

San Antonio firefighters fought to save a Southwest Side restaurant late Wednesday night after a kitchen fire broke out, officials said.

First responders were alerted to the blaze just before 11 p.m. after police officers driving past the La Cima Mariscos Antojitos Y Mas ice cream shop, located near the 1400 block of Somerset Road, saw the fire.

The shop’s owner was attempting to extinguish the fire on his own when the officers drove past his shop.

Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly and the restaurant sustained about $10,000 in damages, police said.

Food inspectors were called out to the location after the fire.
