SAFD: Bullets may have started blaze at North Side shooting range

Nearly three dozen units responded to a North Side indoor shooting range Tuesday morning after bullets may have sparked a fire.

Crews responded to the Mission Ridge Range and Academy, located near the 4500 block of Loop 1604, after some of the rubber backing used to shoot into caught fire, said San Antonio Fire Department officials.

The building was evacuated and the sprinkler system knocked down a lot of the fire, said SAFD spokesman Joe Arrington. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the rest of the fire and made sure there wasn’t any extension, though they dealt with heavy smoke, he said.

A second alarm was called to get more personnel to the scene to help clear the smoke, Arrington said.

No injuries were reported.
