S.A. man in critical condition after being shot in chest by off-duty officer

The incident took place just before midnight on Saturday, February 11 at the Twin Peaks restaurant off the 100 block SW Loop 410.

According to the SAPD, an off-duty 29-year-old police officer from Somerset was working security at Twin Peaks Saturday night before a disturbance at the restaurant forced the officer to remove a man and his friends from the venue for being too intoxicated and belligerent. According to officials, the man got angry with the off-duty officer while being moved to the parking lot. The man took the officer’s taser before sprinting away. And after a short pursuit, pointed the taser at the officer before tasing him with it. The off-duty officer was then able to grab his own gun on hand and return fire, striking the man in the chest.

According to the SAPD, the off-duty officer removed the man and his friends from the venue for being intoxicated and belligerent.

EMS were called to the scene and transported the 34-year-old man to University Hospital where he is in critical condition, according to the SAPD. The off-duty officer was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. SAPD officers continued to secure the area after the incident and located witnesses who were there at the time of the shooting.    

Night CID were also notified of the incident and began their investigation while the CSI processed the scene. According to the SAPD, the SAPD Shooting Team will lead the investigation.  

This is an active investigation and will be updated as more information is made available. MySA has contacted the San Antonio Police Department for further comment on the incident.
