Ryan Leaf Loves How Baker Mayfield Has Dealt With Adversity
Could Baker Mayfield be poised for a career comeback in Tampa Bay? If there’s anybody knows how to overcome adversity, it’s former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf, who recently chimed in on Mayfield’s chances for a career resurgence with the Bucs.
For those that don’t know Leaf’s story, he was a former star at Washington State and was selected second overall by the Chargers in the 1998 NFL Draft after Peyton Manning went first overall to the Colts. With a lot of promise and expectations, Leaf had a very poor attitude and never lived up to the hype, flaming out of the league after five seasons.
Unfortunately, Leaf developed a bad drug addiction that eventually saw him get prison time for burglary and was also sent to rehab on a separate occasion. Thankfully this story has a happy ending as Leaf was able to turn his life around and get sober. Leaf now is a program ambassador for transcend recovery communities in New York and Los Angeles, speaks to many NFL players about his history and is analyst for college football and the NFL.
