Rob Gronkowski teases interest in boxing career following NFL retirement

Rob Gronkowski knows a thing or two about how to generate headlines, and the four-time First-Team All-Pro tight end did so once again by teasing a potential future career once he hangs up his cleats for good.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar recently opened up about his post-NFL retirement plans in an interview. Gronk mentioned an interest in possibly pursuing a career in boxing. Admitting that it wouldn’t be possible to jump into the ring without a committed training regimen, per Bleacher Report, Gronkowski did concede that him entering the world of boxing “would spark an interest.”

During the interview with TMZ Sports, Gronkowski noted how he recently served as a referee for training bouts between Logan Paul — who is taking the boxing world by storm with high-profile exhibition matches — and his four brothers: Glenn, Dan, Chris and Gordie.

“I was the official referee,” Gronk said, “and good thing I was the official referee. My referring skills were pretty legit, 12 out of 10!”

It’s unclear exactly whether Gronkowski envisions himself seriously pursuing a legitimate boxing career or if any foray would be similar to what Paul, as well as his brother Jake, have been doing of late.

It merits noting that Gronkowski previously made successful inroads into the world of professional wrestling thanks to appearances in the WWE. While boxing at any level is vastly different that pro wrestling, Gronk’s interest in such endeavors has been well established.

For now, though, Gronk is solely focused on the gridiron, as the star tight end is already committed to helping the Bucs defend their Super Bowl championship alongside longtime teammate Tom Brady in 2021. The 32-year-old ended a one-season hiatus from the NFL in 2020 by signing with Tampa Bay after previously announcing his retirement following the 2019 campaign.
