Richard Sherman reveals Eagles WR DeVonta Smith forced him to retire

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith ended Richard Sherman’s career — or, at the very least, helped Sherman recognize it was time to hang up his cleats.

During a recent episode of The Richard Sherman podcast, the former Super Bowl champion explained how covering Smith during a Week 6 game in 2021 was the moment he realized he didn’t quite have it anymore.

“DeVonta must’ve run this comeback (route),” Sherman said. “I had him under control, I was like, bam, quick jam, easy, had him under control. He must’ve stopped and I tried to stop and my whole groin said, ‘Snap, snap, snap, snap,’ and I said, ‘Whoa, whoa.”
