‘Rhythm and timing’ are keys to Dak Prescott’s return against the Lions

In a Thursday news conference, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy detailed how reinvigorating their offense depends on Dak Prescott reestablishing a solid repertoire with wide receivers.

“Rhythm and timing that’s the biggest thing,” McCarthy said. “It’s a challenge to grab that in a short period of time.”

According to McCarthy, Prescott impressed in his first full practice since fracturing his right thumb. To prepare him to start Sunday against the Lions, Dallas plans to increase his workload in Thursday’s practice.

The Cowboys hope Prescott replicates last season’s results, when he threw for 37 touchdowns, a career high, driving the No. 1 offense in the NFL.

Through six games, the high-scoring offense has disappeared. Despite a 4-2 record, the Cowboys are only averaging 19 points per game, below the league average.

A strong performance from Prescott could take the pressure off the defense. The No. 8 unit carried them to four victories during his absence. Stopping the Lions’ offense No. 2-ranked offense present a challenge.

The Lions’ defense, though, is the worst in the league.
