Revolution to sign goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič, waive Jacob Jackson

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution have signed of free agent goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič and are waiving backup goalkeeper Jacob Jackson.

According to reports by Tom Bogert of The Athletic, the New England Revolution are set to sign goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.

Aljaž Ivačič is a 30-year-old, 6’1, 181lb goalkeeper from Ljubljana, Slovenia.

At the club level, Ivačič has played 182 career games (16,340 minutes) across Slovenia, Cyprus and the United States. Ivačič began his career with NK Olimpija Ljubljana (2012-16) where he went on loan to NK Rudar Trbovlje (2012-2013), NK Bela Krajina (2013), and NK Radomlje (2015-16). Upon the end of the 2016 season, Ivačič signed to NK Radomlje (2016-17) on a full-term deal. During the 2017 campaign, he moved to Pafos FC (2017). He then returned back to NK Olimpija Ljubljana (2017-19). In January of 2019, he elected for a move to the US where he signed with the Portland Timbers (2019-24). 

Internationally, Ivačič has made 1 appearance for the Slovenia National Team. He last appeared in 2013.

In career numbers, the goalkeeper has allowed 274 career goals against while securing 44 career clean sheets. He has only received 6 yellow cards in his career.

Upon the signing of Aljaž Ivačič, Revolution back-up goalkeeper Jacob Jackson has been waived.

For the Revolution, Jacob Jackson was selected 24th overall in first round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

Jackson made 26 appearances for the New England Revolution II across two seasons. He won MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month in May of 2022.

Jackson made his MLS debut in October of 2023 in a 3-2 loss versus Nashville SC. He then made his home debut a week later, where he recorded his first career win in a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. He has 3 career MLS appearances.

Internationally, Jackson has never made an appearance for the United States.

At the club level, Jackson has played 34 career games (3,079 minutes). In career numbers, the goalkeeper has allowed 55 career goals against while securing 9career clean sheets. He has received 2 yellow cards in his career.

In regard to goalkeeping core, Aljaž Ivačič (Slovenia) joins Henrich Ravas (Slovakia) and Earl Edwards Jr. (United States).
