Revolution II dominate Atlanta United 2 with 5-1 victory to extend unbeaten streak to 8 games

FOXBOROUGH, MAThe New England Revolution II (12-5-6, 46 pts.) defeated Atlanta United 2 (7-11-5, 27 pts). in a 5-1 match on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper Jacob Jackson starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Colby Quiñones, (center backs) Pierre Cayet and Santiago Suarez, along with (right back) Victor Souza. The midfield consisted of Jake Rozhansky (left), Tommy McNamara (center), and Esmir Bajraktarević (right). The forward roles were manned by Damian Rivera (left), Malcolm Fry (right), and Tomás Chancalay (central) as the lone striker.

The squad today featured 4 first-team rostered players as Tomás Chancalay, Tommy McNamara, Esmir Bajraktarević and Damian Rivera all started the match.

This is Tomás Chancalay’s debut match in a New England Revolution uniform.

The match began with Atlanta United starting from the center circle. The team elected to move the ball across their midfield and back to their defense.

Just moments after entering the 7th minute, New England took the early lead.

Following an interception by Esmir Bajraktarević, the player took a couple of touches before playing a centering ball that was dummied by Tomás Chancalay. The decoy run by Chancalay set the ball for Damian Rivera to take on his man and put his left footed shot into the bottom right corner for his 6th goal of the season.

On the play, Tomás Chancalay suffered contact to his thigh, following his decoy run. He would continue to play on.

As the match entered the 19th minute, Atlanta United leveled the match.

Atlanta United 2 midfielder #5 Toni Tiente opted for a lofted through ball to find #7 Luke Brennan battling against Colby. He managed to sneak by Colby Quiñones and found #36 Jackson Conway unmarked on his left for his 4th goal of the season.

In the 20th minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his first change of the match by substituting forward Tomás Chancalay and replacing him with forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith. Chancalay was injured in the 7th minute and elected to continue but was forced off due to the injury he sustained earlier in the match.

In the 40th minute, Atlanta United 2 defender #16 Christopher Gloster was issued a yellow card for a foul on Malcolm Fry.

Just before the halftime whistle, Rev0lution midfielder Esmir Bajraktarević was issued a yellow card for a foul on Atlanta United 2 midfielder #18 Alan Carleton

Entering the second half, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his second change of the match by substituting defender Colby Quiñones and replacing him with defender Peyton Miller.

The second half of the match began with New England kicking off from the center circle. Jordan Adebayo-Smith elected to play the ball backwards to his midfield before they marched up the field.

In the 54th minute, Revolution midfielder Jake Rozhansky was issued a yellow card for a foul on Atlanta United 2 midfielder #9 Karim Tmimi.

In the 66th minute, New England regained their lead.

Following an interception by Malcolm Fry, he found Jordan Adebayo-Smith who then played the ball wide to Tommy McNamara. Tommy then elected to play a through ball to Smith, whose opening shot was saved and popped into the air. Jordan Adebayo-Smith then headed the ball home for his 11th goal of the season.

In the 68th minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his third and fourth change of the match by substituting forward Malcolm Fry and midfielder Jake Rozhansky and replacing them with forward Ítalo and midfielder Noble Okello.

In the 70th minute, Atlanta United 2 midfielder #9 Karim Tmimi was issued a yellow card for a foul on Ítalo.

Entering the 80th minute, New England added to their lead.

Damián Rivera played the ball into the bottom left of the box to find Ítalo. His low driven cross into the box found Esmir Bajraktarević whose right footed shot went into the bottom right corner for his 6th goal of the season.

Entering the 83rd minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his fifth and change of the match by substituting midfielder Esmir Bajraktarević and replacing him with midfielder Patrick Leal.

In the 88th minute, Revolution forward Damián Rivera was issued a yellow card for a foul on Atlanta United 2 defender #6 Nelson Orji.

In the 90th minute, Atlanta United 2 forward #36 Jackson Conway was issued a yellow card for a foul on Pierre Cayet.

Entering the 90th minute, New England added to their lead once again.

Once again, Ítalo and Damián Rivera in similar spots played the same give-and-go play and led to Ítalo playing another low-driven cross to find Jordan Adebayo-Smith for his 12th goal of the season.

In the 90+3rd minute, Atlanta United 2 midfielder #48 Cooper Sanchez was issued a yellow card for a foul on Damián Rivera.

As the 90+5th minute of play was set to come to an end, New England tallied their fifth goal of the match.

Following a corner kick delivery, the ball was loose in the box and found the feet of midfielder Noble Okello for his first goal of the season.

After the 90+4 minutes, the referee blew the whistle for full time, and New England went on to win 5-1.
