Report: Texans Will Do “Everything They Can” To Acquire No. 1 Overall Pick

The NFL draft is fast approaching and as always there is no shortage of intrigue. While most of the season, it looked like the Houston Texans would have the no. 1 overall pick, the Chicago Bears will be on the clock first. This leaves a conundrum for Houston. Do they stay where they are and hope they get their guy? Or do they move up one spot to make it a guarantee? Draft analyst Todd McShay thinks it will be the latter.

Texans Move Up To No. 1 Overall Pick?

McShay was very clear on what he thought Houston’s intentions are. “I don’t think they (the Texans) will sit at two,” McShay said on the First Draft podcast with Mel Kiper and Field Yates, per NBC Sports Chicago. “I think they’ll do everything they can, and the Colts are going to be the driving reason.” The reason is clear. The division rival Indianapolis Colts is another team that has been rumored to be interested in the no. 1 overall pick. The Texans would not only want to acquire their guy but block the Colts as well.

Chaos At The Top

There is going to be a lot of chaos at the top of this draft. There are three or four solid QB prospects and many QB-needy teams. In addition to Houston and the Colts, the Raiders, Jets, Commanders, Panthers, and many more are in need of a new person under center. Teams will no doubt aggressively try to move up to grab their guy. The Bears hold all the power but even they are debating on whether to stay in the spot to take a top QB prospect.

The Texans can no doubt offer the best deal. They have picks 2 and 12 in the first round of this year and if they offer any futures, they will no doubt be in the top half of the first round next year. What the ultimate price will be is something to watch for as the draft approaches.
