Report: Las Vegas Raiders Considering Drafting A Quarterback In First Round

The Las Vegas Raiders changed their quarterback room after a disappointing 2022 season. They released Derek Carr, who went on to sign with the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders signed veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency. The team brought in a few weapons for the offense in the previous few weeks. But the Raiders could end up changing their quarterback plans after April.

According to Eric Edholm and Steve Wyche with the NFL Network, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said the team could draft a quarterback in the first round if they match their criteria:

“Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels told NFL Network’s Steve Wyche on Monday at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix that the team is not ruling out the drafting of a quarterback following the signing of Jimmy Garoppolo.

“I think we would take the best player,” McDaniels said. “We’ve kind of said that since we came here. I think we think that’s the right way to go. (General manager Dave Ziegler) and I both believe in that: Take the best football player. It always makes your football team better.”

The Raiders’ first-round pick will be the seventh overall next month. With the demand for quarterbacks in this year’s draft, it’s unlikely one of the top four quarterbacks would even fall to the Raiders at seven.
