Report: LaMarcus Aldridge and the Spurs are finalizing a contract buyout
The San Antonio Spurs are finalizing a contract buyout with LaMarcus Aldridge, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Aldridge and the Spurs agreed to mutually part ways earlier this month as the front office explored the trade market for a suitable destination for the veteran big man.
Although LaMarcus was averaging the fewest points and rebounds per game since his rookie campaign, San Antonio was a respectable 12-9 when he suited up for them this season.
The former University of Texas product ends his tenure in Silver and Black with the tenth-most points, eight-most offensive rebounds, and seventh-most blocks in franchise history.
The six-eleven stretch-forward signed with San Antonio during the 2015 offseason after PATFO convinced him to spurn offers from the Heat, Suns, Lakers, Raptors, Rockets, and Knicks.
Aldridge made three All-Star teams as a member of the Spurs, and he played a significant role in keeping their historic playoff streak intact following the departure of Kawhi Leonard.
ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Miami Heat should emerge as frontrunners to sign the 15-year pro once San Antonio completes the buyout process.
Once LaMarcus Aldridge completes a buyout with the Spurs, the Miami Heat are expected to emerge as a frontrunner to sign him, sources tell ESPN. Aldridge plans to talk with several teams before finalizing a decision.
