Record heat index values set late this week in San Antonio🥵

No doubt about it — the heat and humidity have been in full force this week!

Afternoon dewpoints in the mid-upper 70s were found in San Antonio both Thursday and Friday, helping feels-like temperatures soar well into the triple digits across the majority of South Central Texas.

Here in San Antonio, the peak heat index value managed to climb to 113 degrees on Thursday (6/15), which would have marked the second-highest heat index on record, following July 28, 1979, where a peak heat index of 117 degrees was recorded.

However, meteorologists at the National Weather Service now have reason to believe that the 1979 reading is erroneous, which would have then made Thursday’s reading the hottest on record.

To make things even more complex, the record was broken again on Friday (6/16)! A peak heat index of 115 degrees has now been recorded at San Antonio International Airport, snagging the top spot for the hottest heat index value on record.

Looking ahead, it’ll still be plenty hot and humid through the upcoming Father’s Day Weekend and into next week. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take care of the pets! We’ll keep you posted.
