Ravens’ Odafe Oweh circled Buccaneers game due to ‘GOAT’ Tom Brady

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Odafe Oweh entered the NFL via the 2021 draft and nearly missed out on facing Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady after Brady temporarily retired this past winter.

Brady ultimately returned and will be under center when the 3-4 Buccaneers host the 4-3 Ravens on Thursday night, and Oweh admitted he’s had this contest circled on his personal calendar for some time.

“I was like, ‘Thank God he’s coming back,’ because last year he retired, and I was like, ‘Oh, I just missed him,'” Oweh said about Brady, per Clifton Brown of the Ravens’ website. “He came back, so I guess it’s fate. It’s going to be good; I’m playing against the GOAT [greatest of all time], and that brings me jitters, so I hope I’ll have the opportunity to get after him.”

Oweh and company may be seeing Brady and the Buccaneers at an ideal time. Tampa Bay has lost four of its past five games, and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has come under fire due to the Buccaneers’ offensive woes that most recently surfaced during this past Sunday’s 21-3 loss at the Carolina Panthers.

“It’s Tom Brady,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said about any notion the seven-time Super Bowl champion won’t be at his absolute best for the upcoming prime-time showdown. “It’s the same style, the same basic kind of an offense that he’s run over the years. It will be a big challenge for us.”

History suggests Oweh and his teammates would do well to take Harbaugh’s words seriously before the midweek matchup.
