Ravens bring in two-time Pro Bowl DT Marcell Dareus for tryout

Formerly the third overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, Dareus hasn’t played in the NFL since 2019 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 32-year-old played only six games, finishing with just 13 tackles. 

The Jaguars placed Dareus on injured reserve in October of 2019 and declined his option the following season, making him a free agent. 

In two-plus seasons in Jacksonville, Dareus finished with 45 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 30 games.

Dareus made a name for himself during his seven seasons in Buffalo. In 91 games with the Bills from 2011 to 2017, Dareus had 292 tackles and 35 sacks. He was named to the All-Pro team in 2014 and made the Pro Bowl twice, in 2013 and 2014. 

Dareus started 75 games for Buffalo throughout his first five seasons in the NFL and signed a six-year, $100 million contract ahead of the 2015 season. However, he would start only 14 games for the Bills from 2015 to 2017. In 2016 he was placed on the non-football injury list twice and was later suspended four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Dareus was traded to the Jaguars for a 2018 sixth-round pick the following season.
