Raiders reportedly finalizing deal to hire Josh McDaniels as head coach

Eleven years after he was fired by the Denver Broncos, Josh McDaniels will get his second shot at an NFL head-coaching gig with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McDaniels, 45, has been the New England Patriots offensive coordinator since 2012 with the team finishing in the top quarter of the league in scoring in all but one of the last 10 seasons. In February 2018, the Indianapolis Colts announced McDaniels as their new head coach, but he changed his mind before signing on the dotted line and returning to the Patriots.

Now McDaniels is poised to take over a team that finished the 2021 regular season with a 10-7 record and earned a spot in the playoffs. He’ll be paired — at least for now — with quarterback Derek Carr, who is entering the final season of his contract with the Raiders in 2022.
