Raiders Opinion: What 2022 Should Bring

When 2021 faded into the history books, the Las Vegas Raiders face an unsure future, At this writing, the Las Vegas Raiders still possess a chance of making the playoffs. Regardless of that, the franchise stands at yet another crossroads and needs a direction. With the Chiefs and Broncos set at key positions, one man needs to honestly look at his organization with an unbiased eye. Mark Davis must overhaul his franchise.

Reorganize the Front Office

Marc Badain retired, under what some would label as suspicious circumstances. Without the evidence present, all we can do is think that something wild occurred. Dave Ventrelle appears to make zero waves and stays away from the headlines. With that same mindset, the Raiders must gut their scouting department. The desire to keep people that continue to have a say in selecting players that don’t pan out needs to abruptly stop. In hindsight, the team squandered the haul from the respective Khalil Mack/Amari Cooper trades. Josh Jacobs plays at a serviceable level. However, Damon Arnette could neither stay healthy nor mature enough to remain on the roster. Players like Patrick Queen sat right there for the Raiders. As a result, moves like that should be the end of Mike Mayock’s tenure. Blessed with enough draft picks to lay the foundation of a perennial contender, the Raiders look another rebuild in the face. Granted, not a complete overhaul, but a significant piece to the organization.

Choose Wisely

As mentioned, the Raiders need a new general manager. This time, Mark Davis must avoid shopping for head coaches and general managers from TV. Instead, examine which teams draft and develop while. Additionally, what coordinators or former coaches do/did to enjoy success? One name that surfaced recently, Doug Pederson. After running into issues with the general manager, the former Eagles coach found him available. Considering his ingenuity managed to win a Super Bowl shootout, the Raiders should look into him. Also, Kellen Moore and Byron Leftwich should check the Caller ID for a Nevada call.

The Future

Mark Davis sits on the throne of a team with a palatial stadium and a team that greatly increased. Yet, the Raiders could reach two decades without a playoff victory. Dark could also lean into Nevada holding no state income tax. Plus, the lack of snow and vibrant city as a backdrop are selling points. After the colossal failure of the Jon Gruden Era, the Las Vegas Raiders need to smarten their approach.
